When imPerfection Is Perfection.
In imPerfect Dancers’ Own Words
from Ina Broeckx and Walter Matteini.
..
“True perfection lies in imperfection.”
“As human beings we all start from imperfection, constantly striving for the unattainable: individual and collective perfection. Similarly, the dancers in the troupe each have their own imperfections that make them unique, yet absolutely perfect. It is this paradox that is encapsulated in the company’s name.
“Our choreographic language is intensely physical and athletic, and hinges on our quest to explore and understand the human soul in all its different facets. Our work seeks to create an emotional connection with the audience.”
When we translate our ideas into movements, we always start from the music. And then the sole purpose is to convey emotion.
“While we usually draw inspiration from history and literature, our choice of themes is always guided by careful consideration of several factors: their cultural depth, their potential to be developed in an original and modern fashion, their artistic interest and the emotions they evoke.”

In only two years?
Yes. Just two short years after its founding in 2009, imPerfect Dancers Company had already been chosen as the resident dance company of the Pisa Opera and Ballet Theatre in Italy.
That says a lot. But there is a lot more to say.
In the years that have followed, imPerfect Dancers Company has met with acclaim in Italy, all over Europe, in Africa, in the United States and Canada, in Asia and in South America – five continents and counting!
Betraying a powerful sensitivity to human emotion and a masterful knowledge of music, dance, and history, creator – choreographers Ina Broeckx and Walter Matteini have given new meaning to “pushing the envelope” in ways that have had stirred audiences young and old loyal to imPerfect Dancers. And wanting more.
Energetic, emotional, receptive and motivated – these are just a few of the words that characterize the Broeckx-Matteini artistic duo, their work, and their knowledge share with the Company’s own remarkable dancers, the City of Pisa, and the larger world beyond. Their sensitive and compelling performances and their bold, courageous, artistic choices have gained them and imPerfect Dancers international recognition and a rightful place as leaders in artistic dance landscape of the 21st century.
