Art in any form unites people. At first it may seem intimidating to the casual viewer. In truth, it is for everybody. It gets inside you, changes your life, lets you experience moments in a more intimate, personal and pure way, so that you can dream, imagine and escape to a dimension where even the impossible is possible.

For me, dance is not just choreography or a series of steps put together. It is movement, accessible to everyone, allowing our brains to work in different ways and our body to grow more and more.

If you can move,
you can dance!

Roberta Riontino in NPAFE’s words…

When choreographer-dancer-filmmaker Roberta Riontino walks into the room, one is immediately taken by her quietly seductive smile.

Take note: behind that smile lies a laser-like creative drive that expertly merges music, choreography, camera work, sound, light, and riveting dance movement to tell a compelling story that captures the imagination of all who see it.

Riontino’s vision is coupled with a doggedness to demand – and get – the very best from everyone working with her, in the process earning their trust and passion to be called upon by her to engineer her future creations, not just the production at hand. 

This goes for Riontino’s students as well, for whom she intentionally creates a safe space for young people and old so that they quickly overcome any self-consciousness and let themselves go. “I want them to feel totally comfortable just being themselves,” she says, taking immense pride in how quickly they always say she’s done it.

Watching her dance, you can immediately see that Riontino has a special dynamic intensity about her. By her own admission, she focuses on how animals move their bodies in ways humans cannot, then translating what she has seen, felt and learned into highly-animated and evocative choreographic movement.

Though from Milan, these days Amsterdam is Riontino’s creative playground. At age 25 and already with an enviable track record of production credits and festival appearances all around Europe, she has built a strong and loyal network of film, sound, light, and performing arts professionals both in Holland and all over Europe who are ready at the drop of a hat to team with her.  
Her goal and theirs? To give life to live and video productions purpose-built to immerse audiences in an enthralling story whether it is being presented live or in a 2D video. Achieving the latter is a rare talent indeed, and she sure knows how to do it.
