Lucia Forment
Dancer, Handball Whizkid, Future Diplomat
A self-described pure and proud product of Montpellier, France, Lucia Forment arrived in Washington DC for a four-month stint at NPAFE’s Washington office to help build its social media, marketing and funding initiatives that support choreographers, dancers and dance filmmakers world-wide.
Lucia brings both an artistic and a sporting spirit to the NPAFE nonprofit. She plays the piano, she dances, she performs theater and drama, and she’s as fierce a competitor as they come on the handball court… “I am a bit too competitive, I admit”
And more. “Dance has always been my passion: I have learned jazz, street jazz, hip-hop, house, dancehall, contemporary and waacking, the last two being my favorites. I feel my best mixing contemporary with urban dance.”
NPAFE greatly values Lucia’s passion and certainly her competitive drive, plus the fact that she cares deeply about people. “I care about their stories, their creativity, their sensibility and especially how the exchange with people can change my mind.”
“Not everything is black or white,” she adds, noting that if that’s true, the color gray might first come to mind, “Gray is sad. I prefer to say that life is multicolored!”
It indeed is. Lucia is pursuing graduate studies at Sciences Po Toulouse, a “Grande Ecole Française”, following her abiding interest in politics, noting both that “Washington sure is the right city for that!” and that her being here also offers the opportunity to learn about different cultures, something she greatly values.
And this: “I always thought I wanted to be a diplomat, but I have come to Washington to find out if that little spark in me for the performing arts, the spark that moved me to sign on at NPAFE might be enough to change my mind. I am really happy to have the opportunity to work and participate in projects rich in artistic proposal and the exchange among individuals around the world: it is what I live for.”
So does NPAFE, Lucia! Welcome aboard! (back to Team page)
