What leaves us breathless about Jamiel Devernay-Laurence is the impossible concept that somewhere on the face of the globe, there resides in just one human being the wherewithal to be – all at once – a brilliant star of ballet, a recognized genius in high-tech iPhone videomaking, a choreographer of acclaimed dance productions producing and programming live dance performances and film festivals, all while finding the time to answer urgent calls from the likes of the BBC commissioning him to create digital masterpieces.
Of a family deeply engaged in staging dance productions in the United Kingdom and beyond, Devernay-Laurence’s endless creativity, drive and tenacity, combined with an astonishing level of trust, respect and collaboration he enjoys from performing artists all over Europe and beyond, has meant audience wonderment time after time for nigh-on two decades in the UK, Europe and the US, with more now to come including his being chosen to produce the first-of-its-kind 2023 Messums Dance Film Festival in Wiltshire, England.
