Lauren Blair Smith in her own words…
…
As an artist, I am not interested in limiting myself to one clean cut definition. I am not solely a dancer, or a choreographer or an actor… but I am a combination of all my experiences and training I have received.
I would love to perform and choreograph works for a wide-variety of artistic media internationally. I aim to continually artistically challenge myself and to craft work that holds meaning for people of various backgrounds.
Choreography and teaching has this unmatched opportunity to connect with people and to inspire other people as well as be inspired myself.
Lauren Blair Smith in NPAFE’s words…
…A professional performing artist, a choreographer, a producer, a dancer, an actor, and a proud founder of her own dance company. All this and more is Lauren Blair Smith, a true creative who is passionate about producing original choreography, teaching and performing a range of dance styles, and working with international artists.
…Originally from San Francisco, United States, Smith grew up in Singapore and was inspired by the many cultural cross current environments intrinsic to that remarkable city. Having earned her BFA in Contemporary Dance with a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship from the University of North Carolina School of Arts, she will begin her pursuit of an MFA in Dance from the University in Michigan Ann Arbor in late 2024.
...NPAFE discovered Lauren Blair Smith when exploring Joan Dwiartanto`s website where we discovered the impressive immersive dance film “Threadbare” that was created by the two exceptional dance artists. Smith and Dwiartanto immediately glued us to the screen: their compelling choreography, fascinating storyline and the first-rate filmmaking cannot but impress the viewer within the very first few seconds watching the film.
...So it was that NPAFE reached out to Smith to learn more about her creative drive and to offer to promote her professional work to a larger audience worldwide. Take note: Smith was chosen to perform with the Broadway National Tour of Tony Award-winning Bartlett Sher’s “Fiddler on the Roof”; where she performed Hofesh Shechter’s brilliant choreography in over 400 performances in over 100 cities across the United States and Canada.
… Smith founded her Lauren Blair Smith Dance company right after she graduated from UNCSA. She describes her company as a “multidisciplinary, coming-of-age contemporary dance company based in Singapore.” Her choreography has been featured in the United States, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Portugal, and Australia.
…It is no surprise that choreography is at the top of Smith’s priorities. During our first meeting with her, she said she is ever so curious as to what type of choreography she will be creating when she turns 40 or 50. Our thinking? Smith will continue expand her passion for dance and produce immersive performances and dance films 10 and 20 years from now. And many more after that!
…Follow Lauren Blair Smith on her social media channels and on her website and you will see why NPAFE admires her extraordinary talent, her drive to succeed, and the way she enchants audiences.
