Christopher K. Morgan & Artists (CKM&A) is a widely-acclaimed professional contemporary dance company founded as a vehicle for Morgan’s choreographic exploration of social and cultural issues.
CKM&A is committed to art that creates a resonance that runs deep into our shared human experience; to create a body of work that stirs audiences and enriches their lives with beauty, and to create ever expanding opportunities for audiences, students, artists, audiences, and sponsors to engage in this work.
The company provides a creative outlet for its artists through virtuosic and expressive dance performances that give audiences an opportunity for self-reflection, demystifying contemporary dance through its work, including ongoing community dialogue and online video content.
CKM&A also provides professional and pre-professional opportunities through educational intensives, workshops and university residencies, as well as peer-to-peer artist facilitation and commissioning the work of other choreographers.
Christopher K. Morgan brings his diverse heritage and over 20 years of experience as a dancer, educator, choreographer and arts facilitator to all of his work, including directing Montgomery County, Maryland based Dance company CKM&A.
Morgan’s work stems from a belief in the urgency of live performance in an increasingly isolating, commercial, and digital world.
His choreography has been called “charming and poignant” by Jennifer Dunning of The New York Times and been presented in 18 countries on 5 continents, in venues including The Kennedy Center, The Maly Theatre (Moscow, Russia) the Hong Kong Cultural Center and the South Lawn of the White House. The work has addressed issues including sexuality, gender identity, race, ethnic identity, climate change and water conservation.
Morgan is the Artistic & Executive Director of CKM&A, the Dance Artist in Residence in The School of Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies at the University of Maryland, and the Director of the Dance Omi International Dance Collective in New York.
Known as an eloquent speaker and advocate for artists, Christopher is frequently sought out as a speaker, facilitator, adjudicator and panelist, including adjudication for the American College Dance Festival and grants panels for the NEA, Maryland State Arts Council and the McKnight Foundation.
Recent awards include a 2013 Native Arts & Cultures Foundation Fellowship, 2014 NPN Creation Fund Award, a 2014 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award for Solo Dance Performance, a 2014 National Dance Project (NDP) Production Grant from NEFA, and the 2015 Montgomery County Executive Arts Award for Outstanding Artist.
Morgan was named one of the top 100 Creatives in the United States by Origin Magazine in April 2015.

What could easily have lapsed into mere shock-value choreography and staging is understated just enough to give the storytelling a universal quality. Luella Christopher, @ISITMODERN
