Caitlin Trainor in her own words…
I create dance that awakens the senses and enlivens the imagination. Music connects us to the space of dreams, feelings, and experiences-the things that we share as humans-and is a driving force in my work.
To experience pleasure while performing and to share that pleasure with our audience has to be embedded in our process.
I am fascinated by what happens when I can’t plan. I love working with our dancers and feeling the serendipity of interaction. I love how the identity and mannerisms of a dancer are woven into the work and later, when that dancer’s role is danced by another, I love seeing the chimera of the original artist in that new dance.

How does she do it all?
People suck in their breath when they meet Caitlin Trainor for the first time. A choreographer, dancer, pedagogue, a wife and a mom to a darling young lady, and an entrepreneur with the rare power to attract the best and the brightest – all to build and share a body of knowledge not just about dance but the business of dance itself.
Caitlin is Energy and Enthusiasm. Humility. Inner pride. Her dance works are riveting. Her students at Barnard College in New York City and all around the country love her.
Her entrepreneurial presence on the web through Dancio, her remarkable online dance lesson series, proves just how well respected she is among the best of ballet and modern dancers, artists who readily lend themselves to her instructional perspective and certainly to the Dancio videos.
There’s more. Caitlin is in high demand. She has taught movement to elite golfers, professional and pre-professional dancers, Hollywood bigwigs, underprivileged youth, cancer patients and people with physical and developmental disabilities.
No matter who they might be, she wants them “…not only to be prepared to succeed in the world that exists now, but also to succeed in creating a better world that doesn’t exist yet”.
That’s our kind of leader. And choreographer. And dancer, And entrepreneur.
