My vision of dance is a creation that is meant to share, grow, and explore.

For me, dance is finding art within movement. It is exploring and creating that lends itself to new experiences and freedoms.

Dance is in the moment, its something that you can’t grasp or hold, but only experience. There’s something beautiful about that.

Payton Primer in NPAFE’s words…

...“Always making sure that you are pushing yourself to the fullest”. With this sentence, you know who Payton Primer is. Based in New York City as a contemporary dancer, she began her second season with the Alison Cook Beatty company this year, and the least we can say is that Payton is all about going the extra mile. She’s not just a dancer, she’s an artist in her own right who gives herself the means to do what she loves.

…A graduate in Dance, Anthropolgy and International Studies with a concentration in Global Affairs, named Winner in Contemporary/Modern Dance by the National YoungArtsFoundation in 2018, scuba diver, choreographer and graphic designer: one thing’s for sure, she’s not done surprising us with her talents.

…But if there’s one thing she excels at and devotes her daily life to, it’s contemporary dance. Her blend of power and strength, yet delicacy and lightness, makes Payton a dancer with unparalleled power to express what she knows about the world. And there’s no getting around it: she manages to convey what she feels to those who watch her dance, including us!.

..Indeed, Payton made quite an impression on us the first time we met her, at an Alison Cook Beatty Dance performance in March 2024, where she performed the piece “Joyful Offering”. Her passionate perfectionism is the driving force behind her art, which for her is “a way to speak, a way to be”.

…With impressive charisma, she offers an image of life that reflects her designs and her portfolio: sometimes full of color, light and precision, sometimes darker and more committed, sometimes both. That’s the beauty she finds in dance, it’s what drives her to the very core of her being.

…Because what’s important to Payton is to show herself as a human being on stage, as in “Sospiro”, which can be seen on her website and on YouTube. This piece, choreographed by Omar Román De Jesús during Payton’s senior year at Fordham

University for her senior solo marks a turning point in her career: she found herself as a dancer who stepping into the professional world was able to be both an artist and a human.
