Serena McCall in her own words…
Growing up in the dance industry so far has taught me valuable lessons, from each class I take, each performance I do and each job I get. I hope to pass down my knowledge to the younger generation and continue to inspire upcoming artists into achieving the things they have dreamed of.
…
When I hear a piece of music, I immediately start choreographing to it in my head. Then it comes to my body and I decide how I want the piece to be. I’m so lucky to be doing what I love for a living.
…
The most important lesson I have learnt in my career is to stay humble. You must stay disciplined, be open-minded and overall, just be a kind human being. Be someone that people get excited to be with and feel comfortable around. Most of all, you need to know your worth.
Serena McCall in NPAFE’s words…
…Meet Serena McCall! A contemporary ballet dancer from Scotland and at 20 years of age already a standout in classical ballet and contemporary dance, a social media star, lead brand ambassador for “Acropad”, and wholly determined to achieve what she wants in life and in her dance career.
…McCall`s path in dance started when she was only 2 years old and was anchored in the fact that McCall`s older sister was taking dance lessons. She herself loved ballet but as she became older felt that contemporary was really what she wanted: she deeply relishes the freedom of movement that contemporary dance allows, especially how she can explore the many different ways of moving one’s body.
…McCall`s educational journey has been quite remarkable. She trained with the Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Associate schemes and then was selected to study at the Elmhurst Ballet School. After her graduation from Elmhurst in 2020, McCall auditioned and was accepted to the Rambert School. While studying there, McCall was also accepted for a summer intensive by one of the world’s most prestigious dance companies, the Netherlands Dans Theater.
…Even more telling of her talent, McCall won the one-in-a- million chance to perform in the 2023 New York Fashion Week Breitling presentation hosted by the world-famous ballerina Misty Copeland and Oscar-winner Charlize Theron. That wasn’t her first brand work: as a young artist, McCall represented the worldwide Bloch EU dancewear brand for 5 years; in her current role as lead Acropad brand ambassador, she has helped create spaces where students are encouraged to explore and develop their skills using air tracks and air floors.
…With over 42,000 Instagram followers, McCall has shown herself brilliant using social media to share the magic of ballet and contemporary dance with the world. With a true sixth sense for marketing, she’s expertly using her account to present dance reels and video works so that companies or choreographers can learn more about what she hopes to achieve in her own career.
…Since graduating from the Rambert School in summer 2023, McCall`s main goal is to be selected by one of the top European companies. Additionally, she aspires to help dancers with their work as a choreographer and as a rehearsal/ movement director for companies, live and video productions.
…What would you ask Serena McCall if you had a chance to meet her? One bit of advice that McCall shared during her May 2020 podcast with Spotlight Musical Theater Podcasts was how to stand out during auditions. She was on point: whoever was auditioning needed to show passion, how much they wanted to be in there on stage, and show their personality. “And don’t forget to smile! You`re being watched by many choreographers, directors, and artists.”
…The NPAFE team in Washington D.C. and in the United Kingdom are absolutely impressed by Serena McCall`s achievements and especially her tenacity and inner drive.
